About us
California Compost founder David Bailey started building experience in waste solutions when he left the advertising world to co-found Mass Wiggle, the second largest vermicompost company in the US.
Vermicompost is fertilizer created by worm waste. Earthworms feed on many kinds of food garbage converting it into a sustainable,
healthy fertilizer. Dave successfully got Mass Wiggle certified as an Organic Input Material (OIM) soil producer and gives monthly tours to the public to educate and inform about large scale vermicomposting.
The idea of California Compost grew from understanding that the mighty worm is the best method of converting food waste into nutrient rich soil. Instead of tons of human food waste generated by businesses, government entities and private homes heading to
the landfill it can be reused. Garbage’s microbial content nourishes worms who create fertilizer which is then used to grow more food in healthier soil. The process also helps reduce air and water problems by stabilizing waste. This just makes sense. And Dave knew that if it was simple for people to get involved they would.
Our leftovers can change the world. He created a system for grinding industrial and commercial food waste on our site rather than to going to landfills. He also created a worm bin that helps home users to do their part and vermicompost at home.
Dave is a Certified Compost Operations Manager (CCOM) and is a proud US Composting Council member. He’s focused on food waste recycling with a low environmental footprint. Headquartered in Petaluma, CA, California Compost serves the increasing desire for zero waste.
